Ruth Grace Hoskins was born on August 10, 1917 to Peter and Myrtle Hoskins in Churdan, Iowa. She was called home to be with her Lord and Savior on Tuesday, January 20, 2009 at the age of 91 years.
Ruth lived in the Churdan, Iowa area as a young girl and graduated from Churdan High School in 1934.
On July 8, 1936 Ruth was united in marriage to Gloyd Andrew Harlow in Churdan, Iowa. Gloyd and Ruth moved to Des Moines, Iowa and lived there the rest of their lives. To this union were born four children: Robert, Beverly, Phillip and Charles.
Ruth accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as her personal Savior and knew her salvation was accomplished through the finished work of the Lord Jesus Christ on Calvary’s cross. She was in fellowship with those who gathered to the name of the Lord Jesus Christ at 4450 East Oakwood in Pleasant Hill, Iowa
Ruth spent her life as a faithful and loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She also enjoyed crocheting, cooking, and tending to her houseplants. She was a hospital volunteer at Lutheran Hospital in Des Moines for many years, she served in different ways—delivering flowers to patients, helping at the out-patient surgery desk as well as other duties.
Those left to cherish her memory are her four children and their spouses, nine grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren. They and their families are:
Robert and Jean Harlow of Fremont, Michigan. Beverly and Doug Nicolet of Pleasant Hill, Iowa. Phillip and Patricia Harlow of Fort Lauderdale, Florida, Charles and Verbenda Harlow of Thousand Oaks, California. Grandchildren are; Jeff and Heidi Harlow of Holland, Michigan, Rob and Colette Harlow of Rockford, Michigan, Brian and Jodi Nicolet of Des Moines, Iowa, Brent and Pam Nicolet of Johnston, Iowa, Bryce, Clarke and Tricia Harlow of Ft.Lauderdale, FL., Andrew Harlow of Thousand Oaks, CA., and Jennifer and Dan Predoehl of Gunnison, Colorado. Great grandchildren are; Erika, Stewart, Abigail, Caleb, Blake and Jonathan Harlow, Victoria and Samatha Nicolet, Hailey, Alec, Bryson and Zachary Nicolet.
Besides her immediate family, she leaves her sister, Florence Langille of Houston, Texas. Three sisters-in-law, a few cousins, and many nieces, nephews and friends. Ruth was preceded in death by her devoted husband, Gloyd Harlow; her parents, Peter and Myrtle Hoskins; her brother, George Hoskins; her sisters, Hazel Myers and Edith Wilkins, and daughter-in-law Joyce Harlow.
Ruth has “departed to be with Christ which is far better” and is now “absent from the body and present with the Lord” (Philippians 1:23, and 2nd Corinthians 5:8)
