Samuel W. Fazio, 78, was born August 10, 1930 in Des Moines, the son of Frank and Ascension (Romeo) Fazio. He passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family Sunday, January 18, 2009 at Iowa Health Hospice Taylor House. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, January 22, 2009 at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Resthaven Cemetery where military rites will be performed.
Sam retired from the military after 37 years of faithful service to his country and was a member of Bellizzi-MacRae American Legion Post #659. He also retired from the United States Post Office.
Sam is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Betty Fae Fazio; his sons, Tim (Diane) Fazio and Jim (Diana) Fazio; grandchildren, T.J. Fazio, Samantha “Sami” Fazio, Tony Fazio and Mikey Fazio; great-grandson, Alex Fazio; sister, Laura Schwerzler and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Joseph Fazio and Frank Fazio, Jr. and a sister in infancy, Carmella Fazio.
The family will greet friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, January 21, 2009 at Hamilton’s Southtown Funeral Home, 5400 SE 9th Street, where a rosary service will be recited at 7 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to Iowa Health Hospice Taylor House in loving memory of Sam.
