Service Details
Gordon Eugene Munyon, 75, passed away at Mercy Medical Center on January 15, 2009. Visitation will be Monday, January 19, 2009, from 12-2 p.m. at Hamilton’s Southtown Funeral Home, 5400 S.W. 9th, with service following. A private family burial service will be held Tuesday at Munyon Cemetery, Decatur County, Iowa.
Gene was born in Grand River, IA, to Esther and Gordon Munyon on July 2, 1933. He grew up in Chicago, Illinois, but spent most of his years living in Des Moines, Iowa, and working as the Branch Manager for Continental Baking Company. He enjoyed golf, his Chicago White Sox, a good pinochle or pitch game, music, and laughter.
Gene is survived by his daughters; Cynthia Munyon (Richard Dilley), Cheryl (Mark) Critelli, Carin (Doug) McCloskey, and grandchildren Andrew and Catherine Dilley; Alexandria, James, and Daniel Critelli; and Taylor and Rachel McCloskey.
Gene was preceded in death by his sister Natalie, and parents Esther and Gordon Munyon.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Lung Association in loving memory of Gene.

To the family of Gene Munyon:
I'm so sorry for the lost of your Dad. Cynthia I met you when your Dad let me stay with him at your Grandpa house on Davis.And your Grandpa was in the nursing home. I would usually talk to your dad often and the last time he told me how proud he was of you and the other girls. I asled if you and your husband was still living in the mobil home and he sais you all bought a house.Your Dad was really a Friend. Which he will really be missed. God Bless you and your Family'

Dearest Munyon Family
I am the daughter of Donald Leroy Munyon, grandaughter of Homer Munyon.
Although, I do not remember Gordon very well, I am very proud of the name and our heritage.

My wife, Mary Ann, and I share the sorrow of Gene passing away. I worked with Gene for five years, late 60's to early 70's, at Wonder/Hostess, where I was a route person, supervisor and later back on the route, as our Union Stewart. My wife knew of Gene from get togeathers and my telling her of my day, often including something about Gene. Gene was one of the hardest working, most liked, respected and still fun loving people in our company!
Just a little story about Gene:
I was making a delivery to the then Nuns home, on Grand Ave, and I had just noted a very large mangy dog in the area. I was backing out of my truck, down the step, carrying a large stack of trays of product, when, unknown to me, Gene arrived. He came up behind me, grabed me by the leg, and started growling and barking like a mad dog! I threw the trays in the air,fell out of the truck, and started running, stopped only by the howls of laughter coming from Gene, untill he was nearly rolling on the ground! The story quickly spread everywhere, and there was seldom a time, for years, that the story wasnot raised by Gene or me, on any chance meetings!
Gene has joined several of our close group, now in Heaven, and I am sure they are making him welcome, having missed him, as we are now.
I am trully sorry that we will be out of town Monday.
