Evelyn Larson

Evelyn Martinson Larson, 92, of Windsor Manor Assisted Living Facility in Webster City died of pneumonia on Wednesday at Hamilton County Hospital. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, January 17, 2009 at Grand View Lutheran Church, E. 13th & Hull in Des Moines, of which she was a member. A lunch reception will take place following the service at the church. Burial will be at Mt. Hope Cemetery in Madrid.
Mrs. Larson was born in Madrid, Iowa on April 20, 1916 and moved to Des Moines in 1940. She lived there until September when she moved to Webster City to be close to family. As a graduate of the Iowa Lutheran Hospital School of Nursing, she pursued that career for 33 years. For 21 of those years, Mrs. Larson was employed by Firestone Tire and Rubber Company in their Medical Department. After retiring from nursing, she worked for nine years in the Accounting Department of Younkers Main Store in downtown Des Moines.
She was married for 54 years to LaVern W. Larson prior to his passing in 2001. She is survived by their son Kent, his wife Lois, and their daughter Lisa, all of whom currently live in Webster City.
Mrs. Larson loved church work, music, doing nice things for other people, and spending time with family. She especially enjoyed teaching Sunday School, singing in the church choir, and serving as chairperson of her church Prayer Chain Committee.
The family will receive friends from 4 to 7 p.m. today at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon St. in Des Moines.
