Age 89, of Winter Haven, FL., formerly of Fort Dodge, IA., and Crosslake, MN. passed away peacefully and with dignity on Friday, January 9, 2009 in Johnston, IA. Predeceased by husbands, Frederick E Reese, and Wilbur I Bridges (WWII MIA), and son, Richard L Bridges Reese, parents, Lester and Marie York, and infant sister, Joyce Aileen. Survived by her loving children, Frederick II,
Polk City, IA, Anne Schalinske, Burnsville, MN., Robert of Ankeny, IA., and Debra Uriel of Omaha, NE., 11 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren, sisters, Virginia York, Des Moines, IA., Barbara Parker, Selmer, TN., and brother, Lester York, Iowa Falls, IA., and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Janet graduated from Drake University in 1941, and taught physical education in the Iowa communities of Eagle Grove, Lamoni and Fort Dodge. Her teaching career spanned elementary through high school grades. She retired from teaching in 1981. She and her husband, Fred, did much traveling of the US for the next four years until they sold their Fort Dodge home and retired to Winter Haven (winter months) in 1985. They continued to journey north to Crosslake, MN. for their summer months on the Whitefish Chain of lakes until 1997. Janet enjoyed golfing, fishing, tennis, walking, sewing, pine needle basket making and teaching, as well as playing her organ. She also participated in the Senior Olympics in FL. as recent as 2006, where she won blue ribbons in track. She thoroughly enjoyed being athletic. Fort Dodge School District has lost another great teacher! Per her wishes, private family gravesite service and inurnment at Rose Hill Cemetery, Lamoni, IA. at a later date.
