Retired Colonel Henry J. Fleischacker, 89, passed away Monday, January 8, 2007 peacefully at home surrounded by his family. He was born May 8, 1917 to Henry and Mary Fleischacker in Winsted, MN. He was the oldest of nine siblings.
Henry was a Veteran of WWII. He returned to active military duty from 1962-1973. From 1980-1986 he was state director of Selective Service. He was a member of All Saints Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, and VFW. After retiring he enjoyed collecting and refinishing antiques, fishing and working crossword puzzles.
Henry is survived by his daughter Marcia Campbell, his sons: Joe and his wife Willie Fleischacker of Ankeny, Paul and his wife Susan Fleischacker of West Palm Beach, FL. 11 grandchildren and 32 great grandchildren, 2 brothers and 3 sisters.
Preceding Henry in death was his loving wife Mary, his parents, 2 brothers, a sister and a great grandson.
Visitation is from 5-7 PM today at all Saints Catholic Church, with a Vigil Service at 7:00 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday, January 12th , 10:30 AM at All Saints Catholic Church, with burial at Pine Hill Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to All Saints Catholic Church and Mercy Hospice.
The family has entrusted Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens with his care.
