LeAnn Renee Mercer
Of Urbandale, Iowa
LeAnn Mercer, age 57, passed away at her home on Thursday, April 11, 2019. She was born the daughter of Billy and Norma (Rice) Mercer on September 11, 1961 in Creston, Iowa. LeAnn graduated from Creston High School in 1979 and AIB in Des Moines in 1981.
LeAnn went to work for Dr. John Caffrey at the Iowa Methodist Medical Plaza, now Unity Point after college graduation. She worked there for 16 years and became the office technology guru. The staff at this office were like family to her. In 1997, LeAnn followed her dream and moved to Seattle, WA, where she remained until 2013. While in Seattle LeAnn worked for DLR, HR at SAFECO and in several medical offices. She always made an annual trip back to Iowa to see family and friends. Her years in Seattle she especially enjoyed live music, concerts and being close to the ocean.
LeAnn moved back to Iowa in 2013 to be close to family as she experienced several health challenges. She so enjoyed her nieces and nephews especially her five great nieces. They were such a joy to her. Anyone who knew LeAnn knew she loved the New England Patriots, Pearl Jam, lighthouses, the ocean, the Great Lakes and her “fur baby” Riley Louise, her long haired dachshund.
LeAnn will be missed dearly by her parents, Billy and Norma Mercer of Creston; sister, Kathy (Daryl) Leffler of Urbandale; nephews, David (April) and Violet & Evelyn Leffler of Urbandale, Kevin (Jen) and Ada & Greta Leffler of Manning; nieces Katie Leffler of West Des Moines Cori Leffler of Urbandale, Lizzy (Anthony) and Arianna Garcia of El Paso, TX.
The family will have a private service at a later date.

I loved My LeAnn very much. We met and worked together at John Graham Associates/DLR Group in Seattle. We never lost touch over the years. She always was one of my most favorite people on the planet. Even our disagreements about football turned into comedy (most of the time).
sending my love and condolences to LeAnn's family. She was one of a kind and I will love her and miss her always. ?

My heart goes out to the Mercers and Lefflers...and all of LeAnn's friends all around the United States. I met Lily in 1983 through our love of Styx, and we were as inseparable as two people could be living on opposite sides of the US for several years! Our long distance phone bills are a testament to our friendship back then! We would stay on the phone for hours talking about EVERYTHING! I truly loved LeAnn...her beautiful heart and love of her family were an inspiration. Our Stygian circle grew, and I still count those friends close, all thanks to Lily (her nickname we had for her back then.) A shining light has left the earth, but is now in heaven with her beloved Riley. May God bless dear LeAnn..."I thought that they were angels, but to my surprise..." See you in heaven, my friend! Love, Lori in LA

I worked with Leann in Dr. CAffrey's office. She made the place run. We could always turn to Leann to know the patients, the business, and how to operate those "dang" new-fangled computers. She had wonderful insight into all of us and we trusted her. We loved her. I join you in your grief.

Im extremely sad to hear about LeAnns passing. I worked with her at Safeco and have so many fond memories. As a coworker, she was helpful, a quick thinker, a problem solver ,reliable and down right hilarious. As a friend, she was supportive, loving, thoughtful and had the biggest heart. We shared so many laughs together at work. I think the times I was in the car with her were by far, the best and so funny!
My sincere condolences to LeAnns family and friends during this difficult time. She always talked fondly about her family and good friends. She loved her family fiercely; She shared so many stories about her parents, her nephews, and all of her good friends. I knew by they way she talked about everyone that she was always surrounded by love.
The only comfort during this time of grief is she can be with her sweet Riley. They were like two peas in a pod... both amazing and unforgettable. My thoughts are with her family.

LeAnn was my longest friend. We met at Brownie camp & became friends not knowing that our dads were childhood friends. I'm so happy we reconnected many times over the years & that I got to visit with LeAnn, Kathy, Bill & Norma a few years ago! She had a delightful sense of humor & was always true to herself. I loved her love for her nieces & nephews, music, tattoos, animals & her passion for politics & football! I might even root for the Patriots in her honor! Sending my sincere love & sympathy to her loved ones!

My condolences to all family and friends of this wonderful spirit. LeAnn was a friend I met some years ago when I lived in the Seattle area. I moved back to Massachusetts in 2010 to be with my family and mother who passed a year ago. As I was driving across the country last October back to the Pacific Northwest, Seattle, her home away from home, I spent the evening and following morning with Le Ann. I will always remember the joy in her heart she shared with me that weekend as we talked about our lives and love of the Seattle area. I left you in the spirit of love, LeAnn where you will always stay

Mr and Mrs Mercer, I am so sorry for your loss. It is the worlds loss of her great sense of humor and outlook on life. She was one of my dearest friends and stood in the rain for hours to get us into Pearl Jam shows....twice! I am going to miss her so much!!
