Michael Shepherd
April 11, 2019
Michael "Mick" Gregory Shepherd, 74, of Des Moines, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family on April 11, 2019 at Taylor Hospice House.
Born and raised an Eastsider, Mick graduated from East High School and went on to receive his law degree from Drake University. After graduation, he opened his own family law practice, as well as owned and operated Tony's Lounge in Des Moines. After retirement, Mick enjoyed working as a bail bondsman.
Mick lived an unfiltered, no boundaries lifestyle. He had a zest for adventure and un-regrettably enjoyed his life. He never knew a stranger. One of the most generous and kindest souls there was, Mick was a "give his shirt off his back" kind of guy. For all who knew him, they know a great person has been taken away from us, but that he is enjoying his time with his family and friends in heaven, drinking a cold one and swearing at them to make up for lost time.
Mick is survived by his sister, Roxana Augustine; sister-in-law, Leone Shepherd; nieces, Rhonda (Robert) Toncar, Tammy Cumings, Lorri (Mark) McWilliams and Dawn (Adnan) Adil; nephews, Greg (Michelle) Shepherd, Geoff Shepherd, Gar Shepherd, Gerry (Connie) Shepherd and Griff Shepherd. Great niece, Ashley (Sergio) Palacios; great nephews, Brett (Cari) Toncar and Tyler (Samantha) Cumings; great-great niece, Jacie Cumings and great-great nephews, Caleb Cumings, Liam and Beckett Palacios, along with many extended family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents Roxie and Grace Shepherd; brother, Gary Shepherd; brother-in-law, Donald "Sonny" Augustine; great niece, Kasie Forschler.
Per his request, no services will be held and a private burial will take place at a later date. Any memorial contributions can be made to Taylor Hospice House.

Mike was my neighbor and crazy friend. I enjoyed cooking on my grill for him and his sister. Doing his yardwork was an event to be hold. Had many an interesting lunch with this smiling man who adored Kool-Aid. You are now with the angels, Mike

Mike was the first attorney I ever worked for. The first day I heard him on the phone using the "F" word and I was so shocked. I have wonderful memories of Mike. I remember his 30th birthday. I decorated his black Grand Pris with shaving cream and streamers. He was one of my best friends, we double dated alot,he with various girls, me with my husband. My photo album books are full of pictures of Mike. My thoughts are with his family.
