Xay Fongdara, age 70, passed away at her home on Wednesday, April 3, 2019 surrounded by her family. Xay was born on June 2, 1948 in Laos.

Xay moved to Iowa in 1981 and was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church. She enjoyed gardening and spending time with her grandchildren.

She will be lovingly remembered by her husband of 55 years, Vanthong; children, Orathay Fongdara, Amphay (Lilly) Fongdara, Ammalay (Ounheuane) Saychareun, Phonesamay (Phitsamay Sithiphong) Fongdara and Kongchay (Kayla) Fongdara; grandchildren, Samantha, Linda, Kevin, Justin, Juliet, Josephine, Nikki, Richie, Skyler and Brooklynn; great-grandchildren, Minny, Tiana, Cobi and Camillea; and a host of extended family and friends.

Xay was preceded in death by her daughter-in-law, Ratanasone Fongdara.

Funeral service will be held at 9:00 a.m., Saturday, April 6, 2019 at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines. Interment to follow at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery, Des Moines.
