Service Details

George A. Briley, 69, passed away on March 28, 2019 at Taylor Hospice House. He was born on February 4, 1950 to Fred and Katherine Briley.

George was a plumber and a Backhoe operator. He had addictive personality which included, coon and pheasant hunting, racing, and gambling. George picked a mean guitar and was a Jack of all Trades. He would have given you the shirt off his back if you needed it.

George will be remembered for his numerous quotes, such as; “You can’t hoot with the owls all night and soar with the eagles all day” – “As I walk through the valley, shadow of death, I fear no evil because I am the baddest person you will ever know” – “A true friend is hard to find. He could count his friends on one hand. If you find one friend, a true friend, in your whole life… you’ve done something” - “I never said I’ve always been right, but I’m never wrong”

George taught us one main lesson, it’s something each and every one of us can pass on – “If we come together, we leave together”

George was always ready for anything; you could ask him to go anywhere and his response would be – “Let me get my boots”.

George always ended goodbyes to his kids with; “Tell the kids I love them” or “Take care of my girls”.

He is survived by his loving wife, Claudia; sons, Jeff (Sarah) Briley, Chad (Michelle) Briley, Dustin (Angie) Mason; daughter, Ginny (Josh) Mitchell; mother, Katherine Briley; brothers, Fred Jr., Dennis and Mark; sister, Janet; brother in law, Terry Signs Sr. and 10 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. George is preceded in death by his father, Fred and sister Carol.

A memorial visitation will be held on Tuesday, April 2, 2019 from 5:00-8:00 p.m., at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Ave. in Des Moines. A private burial will take place at a later date.
