Mike McKeever, age 75, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, March 28, 2019, after a long illness. He was born on November 6, 1943 in Des Moines, Iowa.

Mike proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy from August 1961 – November 1964. He worked as a painter for Hixon Painting for nearly 20 years. Mike served as a Deacon for Olivet Baptist Church.

Mike especially enjoyed being involved in church activities, working with his refugee friends, Camp Vera and teaching Sunday School. He had a passion for all outdoors activities. Above all, Mike loved time spent telling stories and sharing sweet treats with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Marge; children, Scott (Teresa) McKeever, Stephanie (Tim) Gates and Sandi (Trent) Scully; 9 grandchildren, Becky (Jason) Knueven, Tyler Oliver, Brooke (Davey) Parziale, Laura (Joseph) Pecora, Hannah Throgmartin, Danielle Oliver, Kyle Gates, Brittney (Jacques) Willis, and Millie (Josh) Klapp; 10 great-grandchildren, Cael Knueven, Will Pecora, Mylela Willis, Cecilia Oliver, Finn Pecora, Cameron Knueven, Mycuh Rose Willis, Eleanor Parziale, Olivia Oliver and Jayden Bellman; and sister, Marla Young.

Mike was preceded in death by his parents, Ross and Betty McKeever; sister-in-law, Marlys Pedigo; and brothers-in-law, Mike Wignall and Jim Young.

Family will greet friends from 4 to 6 p.m., Sunday, March 31, 2019 at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines. The family wants to invite you to Celebrate Mike’s Life at 10:30 a.m., Monday, April 1, 2019 at Creekside Church, 2743 82nd Place, Urbandale. Mike will be laid to rest at 1:30 p.m., with full military honors at McKeever Cemetery, Colfax.

In lieu of flowers, memorials to benefit either Freedom For Youth Ministries or Unity Point – Taylor House for their excellent, loving care of Mike.
