Ruby Hyde

Ruby Hyde, 82, died Tuesday, January 6, 2009 at Mercy Hospice in Johnston. Ruby was born on May 12, 1926 in Los Angeles, California.
Ruby was a member of P.E.O. and Johnston Seniors Group. She retired from Farmers Home Administration in Elkader, Iowa. Ruby enjoyed volunteering at Bishop Drumm, as well as the Johnston Library, Johnston Schools and the American Cancer Society. Most of all, Ruby loved spending time with her family.
Ruby is survived by her daughter, Kathleen (Randy) Lehman of Johnston and their children, Megan (David) Goodman of Denver, CO, Chelsey Lehman of Denver, CO, Aaron Lehman of Johnston; her son, Patrick (Suzanne) Hyde of Urbandale and their children, Ryan Hyde of Chicago, IL, and Amanda Hyde of Urbandale; step great-granddaughter, Isabella Goodman of Denver, CO; brother, Robert (Ruth) Schmitz of Warren, PA; sisters-in-law, Patricia Schmitz of Clinton, IA, Mary Hyde of Warwick, RI, Barbara Hyde of Tuscon, AZ; several nieces, nephews and cousins. She is preceded in death by her husband, Ed Hyde in 1970 and her brother, James Schmitz.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11:00 a.m. Friday, January 9, 2009 at St. Mary of Nazareth Catholic Church, 4605 NW 47th Ct., Des Moines. A visitation with family present will be from 6-8 p.m. Thursday, January 8, 2009 at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Ave., Des Moines, Iowa 50313. Burial will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 10, 2009 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery in Elkader, Iowa, with visitation one hour prior at Leonard Funeral Home, 405 1st NW in Elkader.
Memorial Contributions may be made to Mercy Hospice in Johnston or the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation in loving memory of Ruby.
