Michael VanArkel

Michael VanArkel, 62, passed away Sunday, December 28, 2008 at the Veteran’s Hospital in Des Moines. Mike was born on May 11, 1946 in Des Moines and graduated from North High School. He was a United States Army veteran, proudly serving two tours of duty in Viet Nam.
Michael is survived by his mother, Donna VanArkel of Des Moines; son, David (Misty) VanArkel of West Des Moines; brother, Steven (Rose) VanArkel of Hopewell, Virginia; grandsons, Tyler, Brayden and Nic and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his son, Michael David VanArkel; his brother, Ricky Joe VanArkel and his father, Pete VanArkel.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, December 31, 2008 at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Ave. Burial will follow at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery where military honors will proudly be performed by the Iowa Army National Guard. Visitation with family present will be from 5-7 p.m. Tuesday evening at the funeral home.
