Kenneth Dean Treer, 61, of Des Moines passed away on December 23, 2008 at his home. Ken was a Vietnam veteran and retired in 2001 as a Medical Supply Sergeant after 22 years in the Army. He was a judge advocate, past commander and a lifetime member of chapter #20 DAV, volunteered at the VA Hospital and had a true love for his country. He was a very giving person and will be missed by many. He is survived, his mother Glema Treer, his siblings John Treer, James Treer, Karen Poole, Connie Hale and Cathy Pease, his children Denis (Christina) Treer, Cari and Garrett Treer, his grandchildren Jacob and Zachary Bailey, Skyler Brown, Landen Hopkins and Noah and Kodi Treer, his loving companion Sandy Brown as well as many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father Robert Treer and his brother Keith Treer. Funeral services will be at 10 AM Monday at Hamilton’s Southtown Funeral Home with cremation following the service. Burial of the cremains will be at a later date at the Riverside Cemetery in Montpelier, Ohio. The family will greet friends from 5-8 PM Sunday evening at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the DAV or Iowa Health Hospice.

I have been emailing Sergeant Kenny to find out why there have been no emails for the last month to no avail. This morning, I sent a blanket email to all his "addressees" asking for help and was notified that he had died last month. The memories we have of him in Wisconsin are wonderful - from his caring spirit, his excellent shoulder massages and his quick wit and humor. He was there for anyone who needed a hand and available to share birthdays, holidays and parties. He drove here from Iowa for my (Duke) birthday party a few years ago and spent the night with us. He will never be forgotten by his family of friends here in Wisconsin.
We pray his passing was painless. We know his soul is in heaven and he is finally free of the bindings of humanness.

Firts of all, to Sandy, thanks for all you did for providing care for Ken. Denis, Cari and Garrett, I share in your loss and pray for comfort. I am sorry I cannot be there in person, but please know you are all in my thoughts and prayers.
Ken was a big brother to me and a model of kindness and thoughtfulness. He had a giving spirit and a big heart. He wasn't perfect, and neither am I, but I will hold on to his love of laughter and his kind and giving heart.
