Service Details
George Marks left to be with his Lord and Savior on December 22, 2008 at the Taylor Hospice House. George was born July 5, 1952 in Des Moines, Iowa to Franklin and Eileen Marks. He worked at the VA Hospital for 20 years as an Addiction Therapist. He was a proud member of NA for 26 years.
George is survived by wife, Dawn; daughters, Carrie Butler and Hillary Marks; sons, George, Joe, Brandon and Brian Marks; step-sons, Brandon and Bryon Howard; and five grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Services will be held at Hamilton’s on Westown Parkway, 3601 Westown Parkway, West Des Moines, Iowa on Saturday, December 27, 2008. Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon with the funeral service at 12:00 noon.
Memorial contributions may be directed to the family in loving memory of George.

Dear Dawn,
My prayers go out to you my dear sister in Christ.
It's difficult to know what to say, because I know
your heart is heavy. Regardless of what we say...
or...know about life & death, and Gods plans, it's
NEVER easy to say "Good Bye".
My prayer is, you always keep close to your heart
the love and joy you & George shared over the years.
Please always remember it's ok to...
Scream at the situations that made you angry.
Cry when recalling sad times.
Laugh at ALL the fun & silly times You and George shared.
Dawn.. your often in my thoughts and prayers.

I have not seen George for many, many years. George lived in a house with my brother, Rick Fisher in 1973. The house they lived in caught on fire, and one of the roommates died in the fire. George, heroically, carried/dragged my brother from a burning house, burning his hands in the process. Although my brother died 23 hours later, George was the one that made it possible for our family to say goodbye to my brother. I will be forever greatful to him for that.
Thanks George, for being a hero. May you rest in peace!

We have lost a valued "predecessor" today BUT... "George DID get to go home for Christmas"... and THANK YOU GOD that George came to know and accept the true meaning of a "Higher Power" before this.
I believe that Dawn was put in George's life to love him and to help guide him. GOD used Dawn as a tool in George's personal salvation. Just as much as GOD used George to help many of us in our freedom from active addiction.
George will forever live on within the rooms of recovery and within our many hearts and memories.
Heart felt sympathy to the family's loss and blessings to them.
