Service Details
Gloria Ann Tallman, 81, passed away at her home on Saturday, December 20, 2008. A memorial service will be held 2:30 pm Saturday, January 3, 2009 at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street. Gloria has donated her body to Des Moines University. Visitation will be held from 6 to 8pm Friday at the funeral home.
Gloria was born December 13, 1927 in Spencer to Lucille and Lloyd Smith. She graduated from the Boone High School. While her children were at home Gloria was a homemaker and then worked at Mercy Hospital as a clerical worker in the admitting department after her children were grown.
She volunteered doing reading for the blind. Gloria loved spending time with her family and especially enjoyed the family cabin in Colorado. She and her husband enjoyed dancing and music. She belonged to the Fairs and Squares Dance Club. Gloria also enjoyed traveling and gardening.
She is survived by her children, David (Jane) , Mark (Mary) Tallman, Maggie (Ed Van Cleave) Wilkins, Ruth (Jim) Signs, Chris (Tony) Oliva,
13 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert and by her first born son, Steven.
Memorial contributions are suggested to either Meals on Wheels or Rebuilding Together Greater Des Moines.

I want to extend my sympathies to the Tallman family. You won't remember me, but my mother, Helen Goodman, was a friend of Eb and Jess Douglas' many years ago when there was a bunch of friends of Bill Munson's hanging around the Douglas house, and through them I met Gloria and Bob ("Butter", as he was called) and Steve (who was known as "Butch"). This was around 60 years ago and I always thought Gloria was one of the neatest gals I ever met. I wouldn't know any of the family now, but I still remember the huge gatherings at that house. Dean and Jerri Steilow and all their children were part of the crowd and with the Tallman kids stirred into the mix, I just remember having a bunch of fun with all those kids (I'm an only child). I pray that God will give you the comfort of knowing Gloria and Bob and "Butch" are all with Him now and I just wanted to let you know that there are those of us out here who have very fond memories of your Mother/Grandmother and our friend.
