Nancy Evans

Nancy Jane Gee Evans, 86, of Ankeny, IA was born on January 10, 1933 and was the 10th child out of 13 children who were all born at the family home. Nancy went to be with our Lord on March 14, 2019. She graduated from Des Moines East High School in January, 1951. Nancy married Virgil Evans on May 17, 1953 and together they raised 5 children.

In addition to being a wife and mother, Nancy also worked outside the home at various jobs including Reed’s Ice Cream and Foam Molding. She was a go-getter and very independent. She liked to stay busy and made friends wherever she went. Nancy joined a Senior bowling league after her husband passed away in 1990. She also enjoyed singing and being a member and treasurer of the Des Moines Senior Singers with her brother, Harlan, until her health started failing. Nancy was also a member of the Des Moines Pioneer Club as well as New Testament Baptist Church.

Later in life, she enjoyed working at Walmart. She spent many weekend mornings with family and friends at McDonalds. Nancy loved her family and faithfully prayed for each one. She enjoyed holiday dinners with them for Thanksgiving, Easter and where the traditional Swedish bologna was served every Christmas after which wrapping paper ball fights ensued. She adored spending time with her 11 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren, many of whom knew about the “Board of Education.” She liked frogs and was known for her hobbies of painting, making caramel popcorn, bunny cakes, and Easter egg hunts. It was widely known by everyone she met that she loved to laugh and tell jokes. If you don’t know about vitamin H, be sure to ask a family member or close friends of hers. Nancy is survived by her 3 sons Howard (Nancy), Rex (Patti), and Timothy (Sheila), 10 grandchildren Eric (Kris), April, Jacob, Shawn, Shannon (Dan), Samantha (Josh), Nathan, Megan (Brandon), David, and Jacob (Shauna), 15 great-grandchildren Clayton, Christian, Leila, Caleb, Corwyn, Elliot, Cayla, Noel, Evan, Alexander, Kylie, Adrianna, Blake, Lilliaunna, and Aubrey, brother Larry Gee and sister Eleanor Uehling as well as numerous nieces and nephews and many friends.

She is preceded in death by her husband Virgil, step-daughter Gloria Weichbrodt, step-son Virgil (Dean) Evans, grandson Jeremy Evans, 3 brothers Elmer Gee, LaMont (Junior) Gee, and Harlan Gee, 7 sisters Alice Fisher, Florence Rucker, Louise Castle, Lillian Savage, Esther Morris, Bertha Ellis, and Marilyn Remsburg, and special friend John Jensen.

Services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, March 19, 2019, with visitation an hour prior, at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines, IA 50309. Reception there after the services. Internment at 1 p.m. at Woodlawn Cemetery in Lovilia, IA. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to First Baptist Church, 3020 E. 38th St., Des Moines, IA 50317.
