Everett Ray Gillaspy, 77, of Pleasant Hill, IA, passed away on March 8, 2019. He was born on May 28, 1941 in Des Moines, IA to Argyle and Bernice Gillaspy. He graduated from DM Tech high school in 1960 and was immediately employed by John Deere Des Moines Works in Ankeny, IA where he spent a nearly 40 year career. He married Karen Heck on April 25, 1964 and together they raised 3 children. In 1989 he owned and operated Grandview Baseball Cards for over 20 years where he made many new friends and acquaintances. Everett enjoyed fishing and going to the sprint car races at the Knoxville raceway.
Everett is survived by his wife of 55 years, Karen; daughter, Cathy (Brent) Barrett and son Steve (Stacy) Gillaspy; grandchildren Blake Barrett, Brooke Barrett, and Stevie Gillaspy; brother William (Donna) Gillaspy and sister Crystal Bainter. He was preceded in death by his daughter Kelly Gillaspy Acord, his parents and brother in law Steve Bainter.
Funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday, March 14, 2019 at Hamilton's Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines.

Sincere condolences to the family of "Ray", as we knew him at school.
We were in different core areas but shared the common bond generated because of being a school of students from all neighborhoods of Des Moines. Tech was a special place and Ray certainly helped manifest the spirit. Death and taxes are entities that we are never quite ready for...RIP "Ray". lg - class of 1960. You will be missed.
