David Sterling Sande

David Sande, 66, passed away Wednesday, March 6, 2019. Visitation will be held Monday, March 11, 2019 from 4 to 6 p.m. with a time of sharing at 6:00 p.m. at Hamilton’s on Westown Parkway, 3601 Westown Parkway in West Des Moines, IA. A celebration of life will be held following at Cottontail in Urbandale.

David was born September 16, 1952 in Story City, IA to Louise (Moeckley) and Sterling Sande. He graduated from Story City High School and then DMACC in the auto trade program. He worked most of his career as an auto mechanic and was employed with the City of Urbandale until his retirement in 2015. Dave’s pride and joy were his grandkids, and he loved spending time with them. He was a grand host watching sports in the garage with his Cottontail friends. Dave also enjoyed golfing, and attending the Good Guys Show in his 1965 Ford Mustang. He was a member of the Good Guys Car Club and the Order of the Elks.

David is survived by his wife, Vicky Sande; son, Jason (Katelyn) Sande; daughter, Heather Sande; grandchildren, Payton and Landon; his sisters, Shirley Ploegstra, Sharon (Ken) Thimmesch; brothers-in-law, Rick and Mike Ashby; mother-in-law, Mary Ashby; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Anita Ritland and infant sister, Betty Lou; his mother-in-law, Kathryn; father-in-law, Karol Gard; brother-in-law, Adrian Ploegstra; and sister-in-law, Joyce Nye.
