Marjorie "Marge" Merle (Spriggs) VanNausdle
March 01, 2019
Marjorie “Marge’ Merle Spriggs VanNausdle passed away peacefully on Friday, March 1, 2019 at Taylor House Hospice.
Marge was born November 6, 1932, to Merle and Ernest Spriggs, in Creston, Iowa.
Marge met Leo VanNausdle at a Creston basketball game and they were married on October 10, 1954. They made their home in Des Moines and raised three children. Marge was a homemaker during the time her children were in school. In 1980 she began working for Dr. RE Alley as the clinic’s medical receptionist/office manager. She loved engaging with people, no one was a stranger to Marge. She retired after 19 years, and she came out of retirement to continue working with Dr. Alley from July of 2008 to October of 2015.
Marge was an avid piano player and Leo sang or whistled by her side. She shared her music during family gatherings and at Bloomfield United Methodist Church. Marge loved her church family, enjoyed visiting after church, sharing many a lunch and dinner with those close to her.
Marge and Leo are grandparents to six grandchildren, Lindsey, Adam, Micah, Lydia, Wendy and Matt and two great-grandchildren, Alayna and Aislynn. She enjoyed every minute of every day nurturing, encouraging those she loved, especially the grandchildren. Marge spent many hours at the playground, attending recitals and ball games, she loved being involved.
Marge is survived by her husband of 64 years, Leo; children, Rhonda (Tim) Leach, Kirby (Pam) VanNausdle and Tracey (Kelly) Hassel; brother, Wayne (Mary Jane) Spriggs; and many nieces, nephews, extended family and dear friends.
The family will greet friends Thursday, March 7, 2019 from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. followed by a memorial service at 11a.m. at Bloomfield United Methodist Church, 5930 Indianola Avenue. A private family burial will be held in Creston, Iowa in April.

As a patient of Dr. Ron Alley, Marge always asked "where's the donuts?" on my appointment days... With a wink and sly smile.I'll miss that more now that this great woman has passed. God speed, dear Marge!!

When we moved in across the street from Leo and Margie in 1975, she was the first person to greet us with her huge, engaging smile, and the best neighbor we could have ever hoped for. It will not be a surprise to me if God makes her a permanent greeter at the pearly gates. No one would be better!
