Virgil E. Burks, Jr.

Virgil Elmer Burks, Jr., 49, passed away Sunday, February 24, 2019 at his home in Pleasant Hill.
Virgil was born July 1, 1969 in Des Moines, Iowa to Virgil Sr. and Diona (Veach) Burks. He was a truck driver for Old Dominion and for Fed Ex freight prior to that. He loved to laugh! He enjoyed building cars with his son, riding dirt bikes, and his dog Tyson.
He is survived by his son, Travis; mother of his son, Holly Truckenmiller; mother, Diona Burks; sisters, Diona Brown, Marsanna Burks, Patty VanPilsum, Ollie Burks; Travis’s best friends, Tyler and Talin Blakeman who he loved like sons; and many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his father Virgil Burks, Sr.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday, February 28, 2019 at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines. Funeral service will begin at 1:00 p.m. Friday, March 1, 2019, also at Hamilton’s, followed by burial at Laurel Hill Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family in loving memory of Virgil.

I was shocked when I found out you had passed away! I went to Lincoln with you! I always thought you were so upbeat & so funny! I just found out on the Lincoln fb group that Lori Procter invited me to. So sorry to hear of your loss, but I hope you are at peace now! Fly with the angels, old friend! So sad and way too soon. I worked with Virgil for several years at FedEx Freight. Slipped tractors with him quite often. He always had a smile for me and we always had a good laugh about something every time we talked. He will surely be missed by friends and family alike. Rest in Peace and Blue Skies my friend...

This just doesnt even seem real Virgil! Weve known each other since kindergarten, 44yrs....almost 45....your infectious laugh and smile that lit up a room....where do we go from here? You will be forever loved and missed my friend....i hope we see each other again one day! My sincerest condolences go out to your mom, son, siblings and extended family...all are in my prayers R.I.P.
