Jerry Keener

Jerry Keener, 75, passed away February 24, 2019 at Iowa Methodist Medical Center.
Jerry was born November 21, 1943 in Des Moines to John and Lorene Keener. He graduated from Lincoln High School and received his Bachelor’s Degree from Drake University. He served in the United States Army where he was a Supply Sergeant. Following his military service, Jerry began his career in sales and marketing. In 1966, he married Patty Hammond and together they had two lovely children, Darin and Joy. Jerry spent the last 25 years with his special friend, Terri Staats. He was a show car winner for his 1929 Model A Roadster, winning two Good Guy’s trophies. Jerry was an avid Iowa Hawkeye and Kansas City Chiefs fan.
Jerry is survived by his children, Darin (Michele) Keener and Joy Angell; grandchildren, Abi and Haley Angell and Alison Keener; sister, Marilyn Slight; brother, Ron Keener; special friend, Terri Staats; and multiple nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
The family will greet friends Thursday, February 28, 2019 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. with the funeral service to follow at 1 p.m. at Hamilton’s Southtown Funeral Home, 5400 SW 9th Street. Jerry will be laid to rest at Sunset Memorial Gardens Cemetery.

I graduated one year behind Jerry at Lincoln. We played football together and he always was a kind person that worked hard and did his best. I moved from DesMoines in 1962 And have mainly in Texas ever since.

Darin and Joy, words cannot begin to express the sadness I feel for you both at this time. Your father dearly loved you. He was always so proud of you. I am glad he kept in touch with me over all these years. He will always be dear to my heart!

Jerry I lived you so much. We were never close after we grew up but I thought of you a lot. I will keep moms grave clean and with flowers for you. Give mom and dad a big hug from me and tell them I love and will see you all again one day. Sis Marilyn ????

My memories are so good back to the high school, 20s and 30s years. So much fun to be around Jerry and that smile could melt your heart. I can still see him dancing. My thoughts and prayers for the family and all who loved him.
