Michael David Stipe

Michael David Stipe (Mike to most of us), age 71, passed away at Methodist Hospital on Friday evening, February 22, 2019. He was born February 26, 1947 in Des Moines, Iowa and lovingly raised by his grandparents, William (Bill) and Sarah Gilleran.
Mike proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps and was a Vietnam Veteran. He went on to become a talented engineer and was part of the team who designed and built the Ruan Center in downtown Des Moines. He was also part of the re-design of the famous LA Coliseum after the 1984 U.S. Olympics in Los Angeles.
Mike is survived by his brother, Scott Stipe; Aunt Katherine; four children; his life-long companion, Linda Weeden; and his two beloved cats, JoJo and Charlie. As well as many nephews, nieces, family, and friends that he loved.
The family will greet friends from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday, February 28, 2019 at Hamilton’s Southtown Funeral Home, 5400 SW 9th Street. Funeral services will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday, February 28, 2019, at the funeral home. Mike will be laid to rest with military honors at Iowa Veterans Cemetery in Van Meter on Friday, March 1, 2019.

Were going to miss Mike. I will always treasure the memories of the house in Pasadena, how sweet he was to Bill, and the great times we shared. May he rest in Gods eternal mercy.

mike was a long time good friend of mine. we shared good times together over the years. unfortunately I lost track of mike these last few years but he will always be remembered and thought of by me and many others. my heart goes out to his family and especially to his brother Scott who also is a good friend of mine. god bless all of you love jimmie
