Ginny Pearson
B. July 13, 1932 and D. February 15, 2019
Virginia Claire (Langin) Pearson, 86, of Des Moines died peacefully at home, surrounded by her family, on Friday, February 15, 2019. Known as “Ginny” by her family and friends, she was born into a musical family on July 13, 1932 in Sioux Falls, South Dakota to Thomas and Rose Langin. On October 2, 1954, she married Chuck Pearson at Basilica of St. John.
Ginny was known for her beauty, warm smile, and vivacious laugh. The most important things in her life were her family, faith, and music. She not only took care of her own seven children, but throughout the years she nurtured the neighborhood kids, nieces, nephews, grandchildren, and anyone else in need of her hug. The greatest act of compassion Chuck and Ginny shared was working with Catholic Charities of Des Moines by taking in seven young mothers to be. These women became members of the Pearson family and many remained close to Ginny and Chuck.
Ginny’s family extended beyond her immediate family, to include her cherished, church family. In the early 1970s, the Pearsons became members of the Drake Newman Community, now known as St. Catherine of Siena. This one of a kind community blessed them with many wonderful friendships that greatly enriched their lives over the years.
Ginny’s love of music was instilled at an early age. Trained in classical music, she was a brilliant pianist and loved to play Chopin’s Nocturne in E-Flat major, Op. 9, No. 2. Music was her life, the notes were her family. She shared her gift by volunteering to play the piano at Mercy Hospital in Des Moines for patients, families, and guests. As of late, many of her neighbors at Legacy Point stopped outside her door to listen to her play. Her love of music was with her to the very end.
Ginny was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, and her sister Rosemarie Langin. Ginny is survived by her seven children Mark (Janeen) Pearson of Ankeny, Diane Pearson of Dallas, TX, Sue (Garry) Sullivan of Olathe, KS, Patty (Cramer) Hass Leawood, KS, Jim Pearson of Des Moines, Jann (Terry) Welker of Urbandale, and J.P. (Suzie) Pearson of Johnston, her thirteen grandchildren, and one great granddaughter.
Visitation will begin at 10:00 AM immediately followed by funeral services at 11:30 AM on Tuesday, February 19 at Hamilton’s on Westown Parkway, 3601 Westown Parkway, West Des Moines, IA 50266.
The family extends a special thanks to Wesley Life Hospice and Ginny’s friends at The Village of Legacy Point for their compassion and care.

Ginny was one of my surrogate moms in college life when mine was miles away. Patty, your siblings and parents made me feel as though I was a member of the family. Filled with love, happiness and generosity. Due to inclement weather Im sorry I will not be there tomorrow but I promise I will be thinking of all you Pearsons in my heart.

Dear Pearson Cousins,
Jean and I are so sorry that Aunt Ginn has passed away. She was a special aunt who wore a warm smile and was always kind and interested in my life. I have many fond memories of our families spending time together at your house when we were young. We had many great times.
Jean and I are disappointed that the weather kept us from traveling to Iowa for Aunt Ginn's service. We are keeping all of you in our prayers.

Ginny was a dear friend, along with her husband Chuck. She always treated me as one of the family. I cherish the talks we had after Chuck died about life after death, music and food. She blessed my life.
