Service Details

Services for Naomi E. (Schmitt) Heineman, 82, formerly of 881 McCormick Street, Dubuque, will be held at 11 am Friday, December 12, 2008 at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, 2145 JFK Road, Dubuque. Burial will take place in Linwood Cemetery. Friends may call after 10 am Friday at the Church. A memorial service will be held at Wesley Acres on Saturday, December 20th at 2:00 p.m.
Mrs. Heineman worked at Dubuque Caradco and company. She also worked briefly at the Dubuque Golf and Country Club and Firestone Tire store as a bookkeeper.
Naomi was born April 23, 1926 in her parent’s home, daughter of Otto and Marie (Guler) Schmitt. She joined her husband in Heaven Sunday, December 7, 2008 at Wesley Acres in Des Moines.
She married Donald F. Heineman on October 7, 1951 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Dubuque.
Naomi graduated from Dubuque Senior High School. She was a member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Dubuque.
She often volunteered at church. One of her favorite things was embroidering baptismal napkins. Most of her time was spent loving and caring for Donald and their children. She was involved in their lives resulting in her volunteering for Brownies and Girl Scouts. Her Christmas cookie plates were famous with the neighbors and the children's school teachers. She was a friend, neighbor, and mom, to many more then we can mention here.
After the kids left home she volunteered in the surgical waiting room at Finley Hospital.
Surviving are her son, Andrew (and Margaret) Heineman of Iowa City, daughters, Anna (and Drew) Stevens of Madison, WI and Sharon ( and Ken) Beliel of Des Moines; three grandchildren, Crystal, Kelsey and Caleb Beliel; her brother, Walt (and Donna) Schmitt; her sister, Dorothy (Schmitt) Johnson.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her beloved husband, Donald Heineman.
The family requests no flowers. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or Hospice.
