Donald “Don” Geiken, 77, passed away peacefully Wednesday, December 3, 2008 at Mitchell Village in Mitchellville, IA. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, December 6, 2008 at First Presbyterian Church, 3100 Easton Blvd. Burial will take place at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at Oakwood Cemetery in Ackley, IA. The family will greet friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the church.
Don was born January 1, 1931 in Ackley, IA to Deddo and Laura (Bartling) Geiken and graduated from Iowa Falls High School. He was a Sgt. in the U.S. Army and Iowa National Guard. He retired from the U.S. Post Office. Don was a member of First Presbyterian Church where he served as an Elder, a Deacon and Lead Usher. He was a kind and gracious man who enjoyed his family, home and friends. An avid camper, Don and his family camped in 49 states.
Don is survived by his wife of 55 years, Gladys; sons, Bill (Judy) Geiken and Garry (Heidi Berg) Geiken; grandsons, Jeromy (Christie), Jason (Bethany), Jeff and Owen Geiken; great-grandson, Malachi Geiken; brothers-in-law, Ralph (Edith) Harms and John (Mary) Harms; sisters-in-law, Nett (Ray) Daniels, Cecelia Fistler and Sonna Geiken; special aunt, Edna Hites; and a host of other family members and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Darrell and Robert Geiken; sister-in-law, Lorraine Geiken and brother-in-law, Harold Fistler.
