Vella J. Davis, 68, of Des Moines passed away on December 3, 2008 at the Iowa Health Hospice Taylor House following a long battle with cancer. Funeral services will be held at 11 A.M. Saturday at Hamilton’s Southtown Funeral Home. The family will greet friends from 5-8 P.M. Friday evening at the funeral home. She is survived by her daughter Tracy (John) McGreevy of Stony Brook, New York; her sons Todd Cross of Des Moines and Cole Cross of Omaha; her sister Vera Ogle of Des Moines and her grandson Sean McGreevy. She was preceded in death by her husband Bill Davis and granddaughter Denelle McGreevy. Memorial contributions may be made to the Iowa Health Hospice Taylor House.

My memory of a wonderful and thoughtful woman:
Vella and Cole came for breakfast one Sunday morning, she noticed I didn't have a TV in my bedroom, so she sent me one from the kindness of her heart. After we had breakfast I was going back and forth picking up dishes and cleaning when she said to me the dishes will be there later, were here now, sit down and visit with us these words will be with me for the rest of my life and I thank her for teaching this life lesson.
My thoughts and heartfelt condolences go out to my dearest friend Cole and his family.
