Arnold Lyle, age 89, passed away on Sunday, February 3, 2019 at Mitchellville Nursing Home. Arnold was born the son of Lillian and Arnold Lyle, Sr., on March 26, 1929 in Des Moines, Iowa.
Arnold attended East High School. He immediately started working at Pigeons Furniture Store and Swift & Co packing plant for 22 years. He held many jobs throughout his years, working for L.H. Kurtz Hardware Company, Younkers, R.R. Donnelley Printing and Dahls. Arnold also, made ammunition for WWII at the Armory.
Some of his hobbies and interests included, wood working, avid Dallas Cowboys, Minnesota Vikings and Iowa Hawkeyes fan, he also loved watching Tiger Woods golf. Arnold had a passion for the outdoors, hunting rabbit and squirrels, fishing at Saylorville Lake and local rivers for crappie, blue gill and wipers. He was proud to have held first state record for wipers. Above all, he treasured time spent with his grandchild, Diandra.
He is survived by his sons, William “Bernie” Lyle and Arnold Lyle III; and granddaughter, Diandra Lyle.
Arnold was preceded in death by his loving wife, Ethel in 2000; daughter, Lillian in 2017; mother and father; brothers, Ollie, Charles, Elton and Billy; and his sister, Ruby.
Funeral services will be held at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines on Monday, February 18, 2019 at 1:00 p.m. followed by burial at Glendale Cemetery.
In remembrance of Arnold, memorials may be made to the family.
