Mrs. Edna Una Christiansen Lauritsen, 96, died Tuesday, November 25, 2008 at the Urbandale Health and Rehabilitation Center of respiratory failure after experiencing several months of declining health.
A native of Madison, South Dakota, Mrs. Lauritsen moved to Des Moines in 1931. She was the wife of Mr. Frederik Ibsen Lauritsen, deceased.
Survivors include three sons, Robert (Phyllis) Lauritsen of Sun Valley Lake, Iowa; Charles (Terry) Lauritsen of Urbandale, Iowa; and James (Holly) Lauritsen of Burlington, North Carolina; and six grandchildren, Chad, Scott, Adam, Austin, Taylor and Mimi.
The funeral will be conducted at 1:30 p.m., Friday, November 28, 2008 at Luther Memorial Church, 1201 Grandview Ave, Des Moines, Iowa, burial to follow at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the Luther Memorial Church or any charity in loving memory of Edna.

To Bobby, Jimmy and Chuck:
I grew up on Guthrie and my brothers are James and John Diercks. Names from the distant past, I know, but those childhood memories are so strong. I even remember Jimmy giving me a crepe maker for my marriage in '76, and then sharing a caucus site with Chuck in 1980.
I'm sorry for the loss of your mom. She was always very nice to me. My favorite memory is when your dog had puppies out in her dog house, and your mom let me go under the flap to see them better (not everyone got to do that, as I recall!) I'm pleased to read that you all have families, and wish for you good lives.

Dear Charles and others of Edna's family,
We extend our sympathy to you, remembering Edna fondly during her time at Heather Manor/Prime Towers when we enjoyed seeing her and visiting with her when we were there to conduct Sunday services. We know her last days were not easy ones and her passing is a blessing for her and you, too.
But a mother is a mother, and we sorrow with you.
