Fern Carnes

Fern Lillian Carnes, 93, was born April 14, 1915 in Indianola, Iowa, the daughter of Grover and Dorothy (Wallace) Weeks. She passed away peacefully at the Carlisle Care Center Sunday, November 23, 2008.
Fern retired from Cole’s Furniture and was active in the Open Bible Church. She was a Sunday School teacher, member of the choir and a supporter of the missionaries. Fern loved her family and had a strong appreciation for nature…she could make anything grow.
Fern is survived by her daughter, Dorothy Pinneke; son, Dale Carnes; daughter-in-law, Madeleine Carnes; siblings, Fred Weeks, Jake Weeks, Eva Hoover, Lavena Waldrup, Mary Hatcher, and Louise (Darrell) Condon; nine grandchildren; many great and great-great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Leland Carnes; son, Jack Carnes; daughter-in-law, Lyla Carnes; sister, Marie Ball; brother, Beryl Weeks and her parents.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, November 26, 2008 at Hamilton’s Southtown Funeral Home with burial to follow at the IOOF Cemetery in Indianola. The family will greet friends one hour prior to the services at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Central Iowa in loving memory of Fern.
