Fred Sowder

Fred Sowder, 57, of Des Moines passed away peacefully at his home on November 21, 2008. The family will greet friends from 5-8 P.M. Monday at Hamilton’s Southtown Funeral Home and cremation will follow the visitation. Fred was retired and had been working part time at NAPA. He was a Navy veteran and loved riding his Harley. He is survived by his wife Shar of Des Moines; his sons Travis and Justin Sowder of Des Moines; his step-son James West and his wife Sharon of Des Moines; his granddaughter Suzanne West; his sister Jan of North Carolina and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents Kenneth and Beulah and his brother Ike.

My sympathy goes out to you and your family Shar. It is such a waste of life at his age. Just know that my thought and prayers have been with you all day today and may God give you comfort and peace at this time. May God grant you blessed assurance to know that we are never alone when we turn to the Lord for your strength and help. Just know that you are loved and everyone is very sad at this time for you.

We send our deepest sypmathy's at such a sorrowful time. We knew Fred for several years and was a good friend of ours. He was always there when you needed him especially to help you work on your cars, repairing appliances, etc. Fred was a very resourceful and intelligent individual who knew how to do just about anything. Several times Debbie and I would go over to his house to visit and have a BBQ, and I might add he was an excellent cook. I could go on and on about this terrific person but I think you get the idea. Fred liked having a good time, good food, and mostly having alot of laughs with family and friends. Fred will truly be missed by everyone who knew him and loved him. Good bye Fred and may God be with you on your journey.
