James W. Phillips

James W. Phillips, 93, died at his home Wednesday, November 19, 2008 of cancer. Funeral services will be held at 12 p.m. Saturday, November 22, 2008 at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Ave. with burial at Zearing Cemetery in Zearing, Iowa. Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
James was born October 17, 1915 in Valley Junction, Iowa to James and Louisa Phillips. He served in the U.S. Navy during WWII. He owned and operated rental properties, was a used car dealer and was the proprietor of the Antique Mall in Valley Junction.
James is survived by his children, James Phillips (Ruby), Shirley Green and Steven Phillips (Robin Connett); four grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Minnie; and daughter, Mary Johanik; son-in-law, James Johanik; and grandson, Rick Johanik.
