Service Details
Velma Pearson, 71, passed away Monday, November 17, 2008 at Iowa Lutheran Hospital. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, November 22, 2008 at the Eastside Church of the Nazarene where she was a devoted member with burial to follow at Laurel Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon St.
Velma is survived by her husband of 43 years, Jerry; daughters, Jean (Clifford) Jantz and Julie Barrett; four sisters; five brothers; grandchildren, Amanda (Dewey) Abbott, Ben (Andrea) Jantz, Erica Barrett, Christopher Barrett, Adam Jantz and Alyssa (Jeremiah) Reynolds; and her great-granddaughter, Kayla Jantz. She was preceded in death by her parents, Glenn and Bertha Williams; son, Dennis Rheuport; three sisters; and a brother.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Eastside Church of the Nazarene.

I knew Velma when she lived on E. 9th St. Jeanne was my sister Gaylene's best friend and I babysat for Jean and Dennis often. I am so sorry to learn of Velma's death. She was such a nice lady. My condolences to Jerry and the family. DeAnna

I am very sorry hear about Velma's death. I was a neighbor and good friend of Jean's in Junior high and High School. I have great memories of spending time with Jean and her family. Velma was a very nice lady who even then had health issues to deal with but still kept going. It is hard to believe that was about 40 years ago. My thoughts and prayers are with her family. She will live on each day in your memories and in the love and care you give your loved ones every day. Iam sorry I won't be able to be at the funeral but will be thinking of you all and remembering fun times in the past.

I read about your Mom's passing online in the Register. I remember you were very close and I wish you all peace until together again.
It was funny seeing your kids names with spouses. I remember them as cute and cute kids - now all grown up. (I hope if Ben is still working at Adventureland that he at least owns the place now!)

Velma, I will miss your phone calls to the church office and your emails. Thank you for being an example to me and many others of how to handle life when being dealt with a bad situation. You was a special lady and your church family will greatly miss you. Now you are free to roam the streets of gold and walk with Jesus throughout heaven. No more wheel chair and no more having to lay in bed. You are finally free from the tormoil of being confined to a chair or bed. You are in good company in heaven. by the way, tell my Grandma and Grandpa Miller and Grandpa Johnston hi for me and we will see you again someday. Wow! Eternal life is now your reward! Jerry and family,
I am praying for you and just want you to be encouraged and to be reasurred that Velma has fought the good fight and now she has won the battle. Victory is hers as she spends eternity with Jesus. Psalm 116:15 says "Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of his saints." As sad as it is to lose a family member and especially around the Thanksgiving and Christmas season, be comforted to know that Velma is safe in the arms of Jesus. Think of it...Velma's first Thanksgiving in heaven and Velma's first Christmas with the King of Kings Himself - Jesus Christ - our Saviour and our Redeemer and our Hope. Because of Jesus Christ, we have the hope of spending eternity with Velma someday too with Jesus Christ.
