Mildred Peek

Mildred Peek, 83, died Sunday, November 16, 2008 at Taylor Hospice House. She was born October 16, 1925 in Russell, Iowa the daughter of James Elmer and Elizabeth Vinger (Booth) Dunkin.
Mildred graduated from Seymore High School in 1943. On August 18, 1945, she married Joseph Peek. The couple made their home in Ottumwa, Iowa until 1952, when they moved to Des Moines. She worked for the Des Moines Public Schools in the cafeteria at Des Moines Tech. She also worked for K Mart and National Handie Craft until her retirement in 1971 when her health began to fail. Mildred remained in her own home until her final days.
Mildred is survived by her sons, Larry David (Lucille) Peek of Renton, WA, Michael Eugene (Janet) Peek of Des Moines and Danny Lee Peek of Mt. Pleasant, IA; daughter, Sherry Patricia (Brian) Seisinger of Surprise, AZ; two sisters, Dorothy Velda Brown of Pinole, CA and Kathryn Fern Linter of Sacramento, CA; 18 grandchildren; two honorary grandchildren; 55 great- grandchildren; and two honorary great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, James and Elizabeth; her husband, Joseph LaVern Peek; two infant daughters; a brother, Harold William Dunkin; a sister, Genevieve Marie Petry; and two great-grandsons, David and Johnny.
Memorial services for Mildred will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, November 22, 2008 at First Baptist Church in Johnston, of which she was a member. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church. She and her husband, Joseph will be joined once again at their final resting place, the Iowa Veteran’s Cemetery in Van Meter.
