Michael Merlin Bobst
November 15, 2008
Michael Merlin Bobst, 59, died unexpectedly, but peacefully in his sleep the morning of Saturday, November 15, 2008. He was in Minnesota hunting with his buddies.
Funeral services will be held at 5:00 p.m., Friday, November 21, 2008 at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street. Visitation will be held from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
Mike was raised on a farm near Alexander, Iowa and attended CAL (Coulter, Alexander and Latimer) schools. His childhood on the farm sparked a lifelong interest in the outdoors. Mike was a master angler fisherman, an expert marksman hunter and built the perfect crackling fires. Mike also enjoyed playing any card game, spending time with his many great friends, good scotch, golfing with the Fat Boys and telling hilarious jokes. An ex-marine, Mike was a strong patriot and a generous person. He paid his own way, was always willing to help others and did his share of the work and always a little bit more.
Mike is survived by his sister, Karen Hotchkiss and the three great loves of his life, his daughters, Kari, Mimi and Amie Bobst. He was preceded in death by his parents, Merlin and Verla and his brother Jerry.
Memorial contributions may be made to the family and will be forwarded to The Minnesota Outdoor Heritage Alliance.

I am only now beginning to realize that Mike has left us. I took some time to review the pictures I have of our fishing trips and of Mike's visits to northern Minnesota. Now I wish I had taken more. They serve as reminders of the gentleman I came to know. Viewing them brought back fond memories and 'happy times'. Mike was a very independent person and relied on few. But I don't think he'll mind if I keep him in my prayers.

I just met Mike for the first time 2 weekends ago. I was hunting with my boyfriend Joe at the shack where Mike hunts. I liked him instantly. Full of fun and always a smile on his face. Friday the day before he died, we left the shack after hunting.......leaving I remember seeing his smiling face at 6pm that evening. It was nice to have known him for that very short time. I'm sorry for your loss!

When God greeted him, I wonder which joke Mike told first.
