Jeanne Marie Baty
January 28, 2019
Jeanne Marie Baty, 81, passed away January 28, 2019. Services will be held Tuesday, February 5, 2019 at Lutheran Church of Hope, 925 Jordan Creek Parkway in West Des Moines at 11:00 a.m. with visitation one hour prior.
Jeanne was born November 2, 1937 to Mildred Orva (Askland) and Royal Alfred Christiansen. She grew up in Des Moines and attended North High School. She met Mark S. Baty in Study Hall and the two married on October 2, 1954. Jeanne was primarily a homemaker and had a passion for cooking for her family. She also helped with the family sign business that was started in 1961. Later, when they lived in the country, Jeanne helped with the gardening and canning. She also enjoyed watching and feeding the multitude of birds that surrounded the property. Pets were also a large part of the family, especially the Beagle dogs. Jeanne loved her family and friends and treasured the community of her church. She also volunteered at John Stoddard Cancer Center, the Waukee Book Sale (Jeanne was an avid reader), and at Kavanagh House.
Jeanne is survived by her children, Mark and Michael (Anna) Baty, and Melinda (Larry) Grubb; grandchildren, Lucas, Julia, Lindsey, and Matthew (Riley) Baty; sisters, Shari Clark and Bette (Jack) Nichols; and many nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Lutheran Church of Hope. Extended obituary at www.HamiltonsFuneralHome.com.

We want to express our deepest sympathy to Jeanne's family. We enjoyed getting to know Jeanne and Mark as neighbors in Waukee and continued our friendship even after we both had moved. We will miss our coffee visits with the girls at her apartment. My girls adored her and we will all miss her dearly!

I was just thinking about Jeanne and Mark today so I thought I would google their names. I am so sorry that they both passed away before I got to visit with them one more time.
I helped with a mural of the Opera House in Vinton, one Labor Day weekend. They made me so welcome in the sign community. They were both so full of life and made me feel so good in their company.
I had met Mark on the phone many years before when I was trying to find someone who would share their knowledge of sign painting. He was so gracious in giving me advice on materials and techniques.
Jeanne was so supportive of his talents too. She made the weekend fun in Vinton, Ia. She even sent me a card thanking me for helping on the mural, pictures of the group working on it, just a lovely card. I still have it.
Jeanne and Mark will always be special to me. I am so sorry for your loss.

My condolences to the family. Soo wanted to meet Jeannes family to offer my sympathy but the sleeting outside just when I was getting started from home prevented my going. Had heard so much about you all from her that I feel I almost know some of you. Jeanne was a good friend and I enjoyed many get togethers with her. She is at peace but will be dearly missed by her friends here for a long, long time.

With sincere sympathy! I don't believe I have seen your parents Jeanne and Mark since I left for Guam and a teaching assignment in 1964. But, your father and I used to play together as kids. I now live in Honolulu, HI. It would have been nice to have seen them both one last time. But, the distance was just too great.

My husband Roger and I sat with Jeanne every Saturday night at Hope. We are wintering in Arizona and were shocked to read of her death. She was a joy to know and we are happy to have shared some time with her. She is at peace with her beloved Mark.

I was sorry to hear of Jeanne's passing. She was an active member of the 50+ Group and a faithful attendee at one of the services at Luthern Church of Hope on Sunday morning. I will miss seeing her at our 50+ Luncheons and the help she was always ready to give for these Luncheons.

Grandma, I will miss you! I certainly had good laughs with you and I have never known a person who can find a bargain where you walk out of the store with an item and they paid you to take it out with your coupons. I loved your cookies and the kindness you always gave to me. Thank you to you and Mark for giving me a wonderful husband. Keep your ears open as I will be talking to you when I see things that make me think of you. Love you Jeanne.
