Roger Eugene Lanman
January 27, 2019
Roger Eugene Lanman, 56, passed away January 27, 2019 at the VA Hospital in Des Moines.
Roger was born August 19, 1962 in Frankfurt, Germany. He graduated from Davis County High School in Bloomfield, Iowa and went on to graduate from Indian Hills College in Ottumwa, Iowa with a degree in horticulture. Later, Roger graduated from Baptist Bible College in Springfield, Missouri with a degree in missions. He served in the United States Navy for 26 years, which included a tour in Kuwait and another in Iraq. Roger was a cook for most of his military service and later became an MP.
He enjoyed his John Deere tractors, collecting baseball cards as well as other sports memorabilia and gardening. Roger loved to go to greenhouses, pick the petals off of the flowers and eat them. He also loved to cook and was amazing at it. Roger will be remembered by his family as a jokester, always dishing it out, but did not like taking it. He also enjoyed attending his grandchildren’s sporting events.
Roger is survived by his wife, Dawn; children, Andrew (Crystal) Lanman, Crystal (Travis Booth) McBurney and Matthew (Hilary) Lanman; grandchildren, Arabella, Corban, Cayley and Caleb; father, Craig Lanman; siblings, Cindy (Alan) Johnson and Michael Lanman; mother-in-law, Ginger Ballard; and a host of extended family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Shirley Lanman and his father-in-law, Thomas A. Ballard.
The family will greet friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, January 31, 2019 at Hamilton’s Southtown Funeral Home, 5400 SW 9th Street. Funeral services will be held at 12 p.m. Friday, February 1st at the funeral home. Roger will be laid to rest with military honors at Laurel Hill Cemetery.

Roger, I just found out. You were the light of wisdom in the kitchen-your advice was like a brief. I am glad I was there early on for you and Dawn. I will never forget your killer grin, smile. I wasn't allowed to go to the VA because I was deemed a "threat" by the head of security-the psyche. So, I kinda stayed out of touch with everyone. I am glad to have met you. RIP Roger.

To Rogers family, you have my heart felt sympathy. I worked with Roger at Farmland Insurance. Although we hadn't worked or seen each other in years, I can still see that smile on his face. May your love and laughter help you thru the sadness and tears.

Worked with Roger. He had such a kind soul. May he rest In peace without pain. He was fun to talk to and talked of his love for his wife and kids all the time. He adored his life with them and spoke of his wife often. Prayers to all those left to mourn him.
