I would like to extend my condolence to the Jerry Waugh family. I grew up just a few miles from Jerry near Redding, Iowa. We both attended Redding elementary before completing high school at Mount Ayr Community. Jerry graduated in 1963 and I finished at MACHS in 1965. Jerry was a great friend as we shared rides from our farm homes to Mount Ayr for basketball practice. Jerry excelled in sports and in the classroom. He averaged over 29 points and 20 rebounds a game earning a 2nd team all-state honor in 1963. I believe he also was salutatorian of his graduating class. He also starred in college in Cedar Falls and was a small college all-American in 1968. Jerry was invited to the Olympic tryouts and was drafted by the new pro team in Minnesota. Jerry is member of IHSAA basketball Hall of Fame. Jerrys dedication and service to others(especially young people) is to be commended and hopefully taken up by future generations. I am proud to say I knew him.

I still am in so much shock about Uncle Jerry. I can't express how much he meant to me and how you, Marcia, and all the family must be feeling. The memories of his smile and laugh with his great big bear hugs will always be cherished and held close to my heart. This man was one of the best I have ever been blessed to know. With love, Sara Adams.

We were saddened to hear the news of Jerrys death. He was a long time principal at the high school in Jefferson where he served the staff and students with integrity. Often, when faced with an educational or discipline challenge, Jerry would listen, search through details and then follow through by supporting a solution which respected me as an educator and the student involved. He gave the world of education the best of himself. After he left Jefferson, we enjoyed visiting with him and Marcia when we ran into them at state tournaments and craft sales. Our sympathies to Marcia and to The Waugh family.
