Marilyn Dillon

Marilyn Ann Dillon, 74, passed away Sunday, January 27, 2019 at Mercy Westlakes in West Des Moines.
Marilyn was born June 30, 1944 in Indianapolis, Indiana. She received her bachelor’s degree in English from Grandview University in 1987. She worked as an Academic Advisor for Grandview University and Iowa State University, from where she retired. She remained heavily involved in Grandview University activities, maintaining lifelong friendships she forged there. Marilyn’s greatest joy was spending time with her grandchildren. She attended Lutheran Church of Hope in West Des Moines. She enjoyed listening to music and was a talented pianist. Her hobbies included crafts, reading, gardening, and playing tennis. Her employment afforded her the opportunity to work with many students, all of whom she loved. She also loved spoiling all her pet cats.
Marilyn is survived by her children, Jeremy (Nicole Irvin) Mendenhall, Dave (Jennifer) Mendenhall, and Melody Mendenhall; brothers, Donald (Nancy) Dillon and Michael (Julie) Dillon; grandchildren, Justin Mendenhall, Savannah Mendenhall, Madison Mendenhall, Hailey Mendenhall, and Sam Harper; many other extended family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her brothers, Robert, Bud and Bill Dillon and her mother, Opal Rosier.
There will be a visitation on Saturday, February 2, 2019, at Lutheran Church of Hope, Waukee location, 305 NE Dartmoor Dr, Waukee from 12:00 to 2:00 p.m.

I was so surprised and saddened to hear of Aunt Marilyn's passing. I always knew her as my dad's beloved little sister. I want to extend my condolences to David, Jeremy and Melody, and to Uncle Don and Uncle Mike and all the extended family. I am so sorry to hear of Marilyn's passing. Marilyn was always so sweet and kind and fun. She hosted a bridal shower for me at the home of my grandparents. My thoughts and prayers go out to David, Jeremy, and Melody.

I worked with Marilyn at ISU as a fellow Academic Adviser. She was so helpful and supportive to me. I so enjoyed her quiet sense of humor. She really loved her students. I know she will be missed.

Marilyn will be missed very much. I have good memories of her. She is my cousin, Aunt Opal's Daughter. I am so sorry for all athe family, her brothers and children Jermy, David and Melody, prayers for comfort and peace through this time of loss. I am so sorry. She will always be in our hearts. Marylyn, I called her Mary Ann, she was my favorite cousin. I though she hung the moon. So pretty an fun. I will miss her. Gone to soon.
