Derald Lewis

Curtis Derald Lewis, 88, passed away peacefully in the comfort of his home on Wednesday, January 16, 2019.
Derald was born July 29, 1930, in Morriston, AR, to Curtis and Tressie Mae Lewis. He was raised in Tyronza, AR, moving to Des Moines in 1950. Derald was a truck driver for most of his life, retiring from SuperValu. He will always be remembered for his great sense of humor and humble service to others. Derald enjoyed gardening, fishing, hunting, and playing cribbage. Games were played at every family gathering. He was a longtime member of Hickman Road Church of Christ where he served faithfully in many capacities.
Derald is survived by his children: son, Michael (Carmen) Lewis; daughter and caregiver, Nancy (Kevin) Carrick; son, Tim (Robin) Lewis; eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; sister, Inez (Harry) Bivens; many nieces, nephews, and other extended family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Winnie; daughter, Debbie Matkins; son-in-law, Kimball Matkins; grandson, Tyson Lewis; and two brothers, Avron and Seldon.
Visitation will begin at 9:00 a.m., followed by a funeral service at 11:00 a.m., on Saturday, January 26, 2019, at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines. Derald will be laid to rest next to his beloved wife, Winnie, at Resthaven Cemetery, West Des Moines, after the services.

I have been thinking exactly what to say and its hard knowing you are gone. You are by far one of the best people I ever met and you was great to Aunt Winnie. The Gean family will miss your infectious smile and sense of humor at all the Family Reunions for years to come. The last words you told me at the last family reunion was I hope to see you next year Brandon I love you son. Well I will see you again some day and please tell Aunt Winnie and all the Geans we miss them all so much! You was one of the last true gentleman on this Earth! I love you and miss you!

We are so blessed by having known Derald. Jim and Derald would talk about mutual aquaintences in Arkansas. Derald grew up in W Memphis. the Tackers station - store was a place they both knew well. Eating out was a treat with Derald Nancy Kevin, my parents Randy. We laughed a lot! (Eds BIG tenderloin)
Derald helped with flood relief. And my home was flooded. Hunting- we could go on and on. its been great knowing a man that loved God. God loves him. Well done faithful servant -he will be with his loved ones gone before. We will miss you
