James Paul Buchanan Jr., 77, died Wednesday, November 12, 2008 at the VA Hospital in Iowa City. James was born in Orient, Iowa to Vera and James Paul Buchanan. He worked as a meteorologist for the NOAA for more than 35 years. He belonged to the Veterans of Foreign War and the American Legion. James also served in the United States Air force, and volunteered with the Boy scouts for more than 20 years.
James is survived by his wife, Jean of Morrison, IL; daughter, Cheryl (Kye) Williams of Denham Springs, IL; step-son, Stephen (Lisa) Mullen of St. Cloud, MN, Robert (Eugenia) Mullen of San Francisco, CA; sister, Fran Davison of O’Fallon, MO; and seven step-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents and brother, Robert Buchanan.
Funeral Services will be 10:00 a.m. Monday, November 17, 2008 at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Ave., Des Moines. Family will visit with friends one hour prior to the service.
Memorial Contributions may be made to the family in loving memory of James.

My Aunt Jane called me this morning to inform me about John's passing. Please accept my condolences and may the Lord be with you in this time of sorrow.
I think I remember John from our visits in Stuart, IA; however, I was very young. My grandparents are Bert and Edith Holmes and my mother is Mary Ann Schnoor. All are with the Lord in heaven.
My aunt and uncle are Bert and Jane Shigley. It was important to Jane that I represent our side of the family and pay respects to John and his family.
