David graduated from Roland High School in 1953 where he proudly played basketball and baseball for the Roland Rockets. Following graduation, he farmed for one year before serving in the United States Army from 1954-1956. He later graduated from Buena Vista College in Storm Lake, Iowa. David was united in marriage to Mary Boten on June 10, 1956, at Salem Lutheran Church in Roland, IA.

David was active in the Newton community and was a member of the VFW, the Elks Lodge where he served as Treasurer, and the Newton Community Theater where he served one year as President. He was also a member of First Lutheran Church in Newton where he performed several duties such as Treasurer, council member, and usher.
David enjoyed golfing and attending his children’s and grandchildren’s numerous athletic events and concerts over the years. Above all else, David cherished his family and their time spent together. He and Mary moved to Altoona in 2009 to be closer to their beloved grandchildren and joined Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Ankeny.

Hi Kathryn. Dave was such a nice man. I remember when he and your mom came to our house for Bridge Club. Do you remember them being in that? The Creagans, McConegheys, Ned and Becky Sackett, Mable and Huey Long... it was quite a group. Your dad worked at Thomas and Allen with my dad too! I talked to your dad at Maytag sometimes and he is one of the nicest men I've ever met. Love you Kathryn! Diane (Allen) Plumb

Mary, Kathryn and Family :
David was such a kind and loving man. I mostly remember him as a wonderful and supportive father to Kathryn during our friendship from middle school and beyond. The Twedts were always there to cheer Kathryn on and to chaperone our band trips. Through high school, college and first apartments, Dave was always standing by with a smile, ready to help his daughter. I hope you will find comfort in the many endearing memories. He will always live in the hearts of all who were lucky enough to have known him. Much Love, Tina

So sorry to learn of Daves passing. I was a neighbor to his parents for many years working for Leonard during the summers. I remember Dave coming up to the farm several times.
I now live in Arizona so I can not attend, but the family will be in my prayers.
