Service Details

Services for Dale H. Pilmer of 12605 Woodlands Parkway, who passed away November 13 at Iowa Methodist Medical Center, will be held at 1 pm on Monday, November 17 at Hamilton’s, 3601 Westown Parkway in West Des Moines. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Sunday, November 16 from 4 to 6 pm. Burial at Norwalk Cemetery will follow the service.
A lifelong resident of Des Moines, Dale was born on October 11, 1924 at home to Lisle M. and Helen (Patton) Pilmer. He was a graduate of Lincoln High School where he was active in music and served as the band’s drum major. After graduation, he joined the U.S. Navy where he served on a Dutch carrier ship in the South Pacific during World War II.
Dale married Jean Garrison, a fellow Lincoln High alumna, on September 4, 1948. For the majority of his working life, Dale managed the City of Des Moines downtown parking ramps until his retirement in 1990.
Dale was a 60-year member of St. John’s Lutheran Church and loved Big Band music, long summer vacations fishing or spending time with family in California and watching auto racing or comedy programs. Most of all, he loved his family. His wife, Jean, and their four children were the center of his life.
Dale is survived by his wife, Jean, of Clive; son, Dale, of Norwalk; and daughters Andrea Pilmer of Des Moines and Nancy Borghi and Sharon Pilmer, both of West Des Moines. Also surviving are grandsons Daniel (Kiley) Hannan of Des Moines and Matthew Borghi of Ankeny, and great-grandchildren, Zoey, Matthew and Aiden.
Memorials may be directed to St. John’s Lutheran Church, Des Moines or the American Diabetes Association.
