Velma Harris

Velma Marie Harris, 104, died Thursday, November 13, 2008 at the Perry Lutheran Home from heart failure. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10 a.m. Monday, November 17, 2008 at SS John and Paul Catholic Church, 1401 1st Avenue South, Altoona, with burial at Altoona Cemetery.
Velma was born August 31, 1904 to Charles and Annette Beery. She and her husband, Roy, owned and operated the Harris Stables of Altoona for 30 years. Velma was also an employee of Younkers for over 30 years.
Velma is survived by her daughters, Doris (Louis) Hensen and Karla (Duane) Swensen; 13 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; 11 great-great grandchildren; 3 great-great-great grandchildren; and a host of other family and beloved friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Roy Harris; son, LaVerne Harris; grandson, Mark Nelson; and a great-great grandson.
Visitation will be held 4-6 p.m. Sunday at Hamilton’s Altoona Funeral Home, 105 4th Street SW, with a prayer service at 6 p.m.
