Betty England, 79, peacefully passed away on Thursday, November 6, 2008 at Mercy Hospice in Johnston from complications of kidney failure. Betty was a breast cancer survivor. She was born on September 9, 1929 to Bertha and William Andrews and grew up in Cincinnati, Iowa.
Betty graduated from Cincinnati High School and the St. Joseph School of Nursing, working in Nursing for nearly thirty years before retiring in 1993 from Mercy Hospital in Des Moines, Iowa where she last worked in Oncology.
Betty enjoyed tending to her rose gardens, collecting bears, crafts, reading, holidays, traveling, spending summer weekends on the family’s houseboat at Lake Red Rock and especially enjoyed her annual family vacations at Okoboji.
Betty is survived by her sons, Robert (Diane) Kabourek of Omaha, NE; Jeffrey England of Bondurant, IA and Michael (Abbie) England of Ankeny, IA; her sister, Barbara Joan (Dale) Marsh of Burlington Junction, MO; two grandchildren; two step-grandchildren and four great step-grandchildren, plus numerous other loving family and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter England in 1978; her father in 1971 and her mother in 2008.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Monday, November 10, 2008 at Hamilton’s Altoona Funeral Home, 105 4th St. SW in Altoona, Iowa with burial to follow at Altoona Cemetery. Friends may visit with family from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday afternoon at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be directed towards the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation or Mercy Hospice in Johnston in loving memory of Betty.
