Benjamin Ellis

Ben F. Ellis, 92, died Thursday, November 6, 2008 at Bright Kavanagh House. Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, November 10, 2008 at Laurel Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon St.
Mr. Ellis was a retired mail carrier and was a member of the National Association of Letter Carriers. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of WWII, a former Golden Gloves Boxing Champion and member of the Iowa Golden Gloves Hall of Fame and the B’Nai B'Rith Sports Hall of Fame.
Mr. Ellis is survived by his wife, Edna Ellis; son, Fredrick (Sue) Ellis of Lakeland, Florida; daughter, Judy Finchum of Des Moines; four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his son, Stephen.
