GayNelle G. Mabe

GayNelle Grace Mabe, age 84, passed on to God’s loving arms Tuesday, November 4, 2008 at Wesley Acres Health Center. Born September 20, 1924 to Jesse and Inez Jones in Des Moines, GayNelle was the loving mother and grandmother of four children, eight grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.
GayNelle loved life most of all with her family and friends. She also enjoyed traveling, music, movies, and gardening. After serving 25 years as a postal clerk in Des Moines, she retired in 1992 from the US Postal Service. She belonged to the Sheridan Park United Methodist Church (UMC), East High School Alumni Class of 1942, and Esther Circle at Sheridan Park UMC.
GayNelle is survived and will be greatly missed by her son, Richard (Julie) Mabe; daughter, Cindy Mabe; daughter-in-law, Stephenie Mabe; grandchildren, Sharif (Vince) Welch, Shanna (Michael) Golden, Joshua (Jennicca) Mabe, Nick Mabe, Andrew Mabe, Shaun Mabe, Kelli Mabe and Lindsey Mabe; great grandchildren, Gavin, Treyton, Benjamin, Kenzie, TJ, Kolton, Jackson and Halley; niece, Colleen Jones; nephew, Chris Jones; sister-in-law, Lois Nolte; and a host of other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Leo Jones and Robert Jones; sister, Arlene Jones; sons, Ronald Mabe and Thomas Mabe; and great grandson, Elijah Welch.
A special thanks to the staffs at Wesley Acres and Wesley Community Hospice for the loving care given to GayNelle and kind support extended to her family.
A funeral service will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, November 15, 2008 at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines, IA 50309.Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. to time of service on Saturday at the funeral home.
Memorials in GayNelle’s memory may be made to Sheridan Park United Methodist Church.
