Richard Oertwig

Richard “Dick” Searle Oertwig, 77, of Des Moines, passed away Monday, November 3, 2008 at his home following a long illness with emphysema and a heart condition. Richard was born on September 7, 1931.
Dick served four years in the United States Army.
Dick was the owner and operator of the East 9th and Guthrie Texaco Station for 36 years.
Survivors include his wife, Lois of 30 years; sons, Clayton Oertwig of Tucson, Arizona, Greg (Donna) Oertwig of Des Moines and Ken (Linda) Pollock of Huxley; daughters, Penny (Dwayne) Eberlein of Eugene, Oregon, Vicki (John) Matthews of Springfield, Oregon, Debra (Charlie) Richardson of Runnells; sisters, Delores (Lowell) Alexander of Indianola and Ruth Van Linder of Otsego, Michigan; 11 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Richard was preceded in death by his son, Randy.
Friends may visit with family from 5 – 8 p.m., Thursday, November 6, 2008 at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Ave., Des Moines. Funeral Services will be 12:00 p.m., Friday, November 7, 2008 at the funeral home. The burial will be 2:30 p.m. Friday, at the Ames Municipal Cemetery in Ames, Iowa.
