Edward Knape

Edward James Knape, Sr., son of Ernest Edward Knape and Clara Elizabeth Fox Knape, was born January 19, 1925 in Ruskin, Nebraska. He passed away on November 1, 2008 at Taylor House Hospice in Des Moines, Iowa at the age of 83 from congestive heart failure.
Edward grew up in the area of Lincoln, Nebraska and graduated form North East High School. He started appraising real-estate in 1952 and continued to do so after marrying Patricia June Lee at the Kingdom Hall in Wichita, Kansas on January 11, 1953. Edward and Patricia spent time living in Nebraska, North Carolina, Arkansas, Wisconsin and Michigan before settling in Des Moines, Iowa where they have lived for the last 48 years.
Edward was a devoted husband and father and especially enjoyed his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Edward always loved people and never met a stranger. He loved telling people about living in paradise, never timid about telling people what he believed in and wanted everyone to have the same hope that he did. Edward always enjoyed caring for his large yard, often times a child riding with him on his tractor or being pulled in a small wagon close behind. Edward always liked to get up early in the morning to get his work done so that he could take his children up in a plane or to fly model airplanes. One of Edward’s favorite pastimes was to go camping and fishing with his family. Edward and Patricia were very active members of various Kingdom Hall’s of Jehovah’s Witnesses for over 55 years. Even in his last years of poor health, Edward would still enjoy sharing in the field ministry work several times a week.
Preceding Edward in death were his parents, his infant sister Alice and a son Edward Knape, Jr. from his first marriage.
He is survived by his wife, Patricia Knape and his seven children, Douglas L. Knape and wife Sharon of Loveland, CO, Debbie K. ODell and husband Tim of New Sharon, IA, (David) Kevin Knape and wife Karen of Des Moines, IA, Diane K. Hoover and husband Steve of Shawnee, KS, Denise R. Lyons of Northglenn, CO, Darcy L. Nick and husband Rob of Westminster, CO and Dustin S. Knape and wife Tansy of Rock Hill, SC; 16 grandchildren, Summer Knape, Shaunessey Reeves, Deric Knape, Devereux Knape, Shannon Seu, Sabrina Guessford, Jama Hughes, Desiree Knape, Briana Harvey, Travis Kern, Jasmyn Lyons, Jade Lyons, Colby Lyons, Chloe Nick, Liam Nick and Eleanah Knape; and 8 great-grandchildren, Kiarah Seu, Kianah Seu, Malakai Seu, Jesminda Reeves, Blaiz Guessford, Kaden Hughes, Jenna Harvey and Calvin Harvey. Edward is also survived by his siblings, Robert Knape and wife Florence of Sioux Falls, SD, Warren Knape of Lenox, GA, Ruth Blow and husband Warren of Lincoln, NE, Mary Levering and husband Walter of Sparta, WI and Henry Knape and wife Sharon of Omaha, NE and other relatives and friends.
