Donald Martin

Donald Martin, 76, passed away Thursday, October 30, 2008 at Bright Kavanagh House. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, November 3, 2008 at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon St. with burial at Laurel Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
Donald was born June 12, 1932 in Des Moines. He graduated from East High in 1950 and served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He married Bernice Arrowood on January 14, 1955. Donald was a retired truck driver, after retirement he was a courier for Iowa Health Systems. He enjoyed family picnics, fast pitch softball, spending time at his cabin in Minnesota, spending time with his family and pets Spike, Mimi and Daisy.
Donald is survived by his wife, Bernice; children, Donald (Billie Bell) Martin, Jr., Melody (Alan) Widlund, Jennie (Dave) Finch, Ronald Martin and Cathy Coleman; 15 grandchildren and four great grandchildren with an additional great grandchild coming March of '09. He was preceded in death by his mother, Jennie Duckett and his daughter, Polly Ann.

Grandpa Don, “Papa” will be remembered for his ornery sense of humor and always knowing how to get a rise out of people. Most of all he will be remembered for how loving, kind and generous he was to those he loved. Papa Don will be greatly missed, but always loved.
